About LSCD
More Than a Dance Studio
The Laredo School of Contemporary Dance (LSCD) opened its doors August 2011 to serve as a resource for dancers in Laredo and surrounding areas. At LSCD we strive to provide students with a creative learning atmosphere that will nurture well-rounded dancers. We are committed to maintaining high-quality dance training standards and providing students of all ages with the skills, discipline, and ethics needed to succeed in the field of dance.
WE BELIEVE…
- Students should be taught by faculty with professional experience as performers, educators, and/or choreographers.
- Curriculum-based instruction is key to proper technical growth.
- Early exposure to dance is important.
- Dance cultivates the whole child (physical, mental, artistic, social).
- The future of dance is rooted in both knowledge and appreciation of dance.
- Through self-discipline, dedication, and constructive criticism, students gain body awareness, creativity, and heightened self-esteem, as well as achieve maximum fitness.
OUR GOALS ARE…
- To maintain high dance education and training standards in order to help students succeed in the field of dance.
- Provide pre-professional level training by qualified dance professionals with degrees in dance, ballet and contemporary dance certifications, and/or professional dance experience
- To provide curriculum-based programming.
- To provide a unique student experience.
Trained Professionals
At LSCD, our students learn from trained dance professionals with experience as educators, performers, and choreographers. Many of our faculty members grew up training at LSCD and have returned as educators, bringing with them a deep understanding of our values, curriculum, and culture. Together, our faculty is committed to developing strong technique, artistry, discipline, and confidence in every dancer.
Curriculum-Based Training
LSCD is a curriculum-based dance school, providing students with a structured and progressive path of training. Each level builds upon the skills learned in the previous level, with curriculum thoughtfully designed to support the age, development, and technical readiness of each dancer. This approach allows students to build strong foundations, develop, safely and confidently, and progress at an appropriate pace throughout their dance education.
The Whole Dancer
At LSCD, dance education goes beyond technique. Our approach nurtures the whole dancer—physically, mentally, artistically, and socially—while building confidence, creativity, discipline, resilience, teamwork, and respect. Through their training, students learn valuable lessons and develop strong values that extend beyond the studio and can positively shape their lives for years to come.
